Queen Bee Leaves Metro FM

Our December Cover Girl, Bonang Matheba, aka Queen Bee resigned from Metro FM yesterday after three years with the radio station. According to many blogs the reasons for Bonang’s abrupt exit was that the radio station (SABC) decided to add a co-host, Lerato Kganyago, to Bonang’s show. But Bonang shut down these rumours with an exclusive interview with Times Live. “Everybody knows that I love Lerato and it’s not about her at all. I have publicly defended her and I am one of her many fans,” Bonang said.

Bonang went further to explain that she decided to resign after she was told about the changes to her show one hour before she went on air. “I get there at 8.30 am [on Monday] and they are like ‘oh you got a new presenter, a new producer and JJ is gone,’ and I was like what?” Bonang explained. “It could have been anybody else in that chair. It was principle that mattered to me,” she said.

But there are two sides to this story as SABC has slammed comments made by Bonang that she had only been told an hour before her show that she would have a co-host. “She, along with everybody else, was asked by management several times to attend meetings. She failed to attend despite agreed upon times and she herself suggested she come in early on Monday. This is entirely her own doing,” said the broadcaster’s Kaizer Kganyago.

Chimamanda looks stunning in a red dress and with her black luscious natural hair that has become her signature style. Magazine’s Editor, Regina Jane Jere states that the interview revealed that there is more to Chimamanda than the celebrated feminist. “For us, the power that she is exerting on the global stage, which is jolting the powers that be, to rethink the way women, more so African women are viewed and treated, is very exciting,” she explains.
