DEATH TOLL RISES TO 3 IN OJUELEGBA TRUCK ACCIDENT
Three people have been confirmed dead after piles of plywood fell off a truck on the Ojuelegba Bridge, Lagos State, on Tuesday night.
According to PUNCH Metro officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency rounded up rescue operation around 4am on Wednesday.
A source said two people had been recovered dead before one of those rescued alive gave up the ghost.
“Three people died in the accident. The truck did not fall as some are reporting. It was the plywood that fell from the truck on the bridge, probably due to overloading. The corpses have been deposited in a morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment in a hospital,” she said.
The truck, which tilted sideways, emptied piles of plywood on commuters and motorists under the bridge, killing the victims.
Similar accidents had claimed lives in the last three years. In one of the accidents in September 2015, in which three members of the same family died, the relations are pursuing a N10billion compensation suit at the Lagos High Court. Both the Lagos and Federal governments, along with the owners of the truck, are defendants in the case.
