MEET JENN NKIRU, THE NIGERIAN DIRECTOR RESPONSIBLE FOR BEY&JAY’S APES**T VIDEO
Beyoncé seems to have a strong affinity for Nigerians as Jenn Nkiru joins the list of Nigerians to work with the Queen Bee. Jenn follows Laolu Senbanjo who created the body art in Lemonade video.
Over the weekend, Beyoncé and Jay-Z surprised us all by dropping their first joint album called ‘Everything Is Love’. While the director of the latest video remains Ricky Saiz who is responsible for Beyonce’s Yonce video, the second unit director of the single is Jenn Nkiru.
Jenn Nkiru is a British-Nigerian, she is responsible for directing the grandiose visual for “Apes**t”.Ms. Nkiru rose from a humble beginning. At the young age of 15, she worked as an assistant to Diane Martel who is an established director.
A clearly excited Jenn took to her Instagram page to admonish hard workers not to give up. With the sweetest caption. she said
“for all my underdogs and my peoples trying to reach their higher level: work quietly + KEEP GOING. the mouths that doubted you + held you back will be the same mouths fixing to congratulate you when you shine. work, art, love, spirit + the divine over all that other basic material shit every time. you got this, keep going, you’ll get there + your time will come. move with love + you can shift the universe”. – Jenn Nkiru xo
Jenn is also recognised for writing excellent music video stories. In this regard, she has written for Pharell, Major Laser, Imagine Dragons, Red Bull and J Cole.
