The general consensus on sports is that it’s a guy’s thing, and though women are free to participate, the general majority of us gals show very little interest in physical exertion, or sweat. Yet, moving around, especially in groups, has tremendous benefits, and we have five of them for you today. They are:

  1. Improves Team work

Most sports are team affairs, even the solo sports have team versions. Playing group sports helps your ability to observe the dynamics of a group and fit in, which is a very useful skill in the office and in various social situations.

  1. Improves Confidence

Playing sports comes with a fair share of competition and pressure. You’re under pressure from teammates to deliver, and you’re pressed by your opponents into making mistakes. The result of learning to deal with the anxiety and frustration that arises, is self-confidence; you were put in a difficult spot, and you overcame, and this makes you feel like a conqueror, which is something everyone could use a little more of in their daily lives.

  1. Improves Initiative and Decision Making

Though sports are team affairs, your individuality is still very important, and necessary, because there will be many situations were pressure is high and your decision can cost your team. In moments like that, you’re forced to use your initiative and make a quick decision. You’ll make the wrong decisions from time to time, still, your ability to recognize moments to take the initiative, and your decision-making ability, will improve

  1. Gives a sense of connection

Humans are social animals, and as much as we get on each other’s nerves, we’re also wired to work best in complementary groups. Being part of a group with a common goal fosters closeness, and builds friendships, and also, after game discussions are always fun.

  1. Improves Physical Fitness

I saved this one for last, because it was the most obvious. Running around, stressing your muscles, pushing your lungs and sweating is good for you. Your body might ache at first, but it will be grateful, and, there’s something about major physical exertion that makes you feel powerful and in tune with your body; you should feel it from time to time, the energy is intoxicating, and it raises body esteem, don’t miss out.

Joining a sports group has never been easier than in today’s world; apart from asking around, a specific search on social media, or an app like Meetly will show you results, and you’ll definitely find one in your location. A few suggestions for sport choices are football, lawn tennis, and volleyball; all are team sports and are fairly rigorous. Take care of your body, stay healthy.
