Go The Feng Shui Way

Get ready to go The Feng Shui Way!

Feng Shui, pronounced ‘fung shway’, is an ancient combination of art and science developed in China over 3000 years ago. Feng Shui means wind and water, two elements believed to be the key to good health and healthy living. Good application of Feng Shui implies that these elements have been considered in the arrangement of your living space. This is what allows healthy energies to flow through, ensuring a healthier and happier lifestyle.

As we focus on rejuvenation this month, check out these easy ways to incorporate Feng Shui into your living space.

Clear out your kitchen!

A lot of the time, we keep old appliances and faulty kitchen units either because we can’t be bothered to clear them away or because ‘they might be useful later on’. Clutter restricts the free flow of energy so this season, clean out pots and pans, throw away old appliances and de-clutter your fridge/freezer. You’d be surprised at the strong Chi (good vibes) that would flow through to nourish your energy.

Go Green!

Plants aren’t just for gardens, patios, and balconies. Putting your favourite plants in your living space will brighten up your day and, according to the laws of Feng Shui, bring about the energy of new beginnings. Also, putting herbs like mint and rosemary in your kitchen will create the same effect.

Create space for love.

Lots of us women, like to have our rooms packed with things we love, from photos of great holidays to a walk-in closet full of stuff. This can help you channel your personality, but it can also make it nearly impossible for an open flow of energy to be created and for your significant other to feel comfortable. So, clear out some of your stuff and literally create space for that special someone.

Feng Shui elements are Earth, Water, Wood, Fire, and Metal. In order to get the best out of any space, you need to incorporate these elements into said space. Here are a few tips on how to do this:

  • Earth: This is linked to squares as well as yellow and brown. So, to incorporate this element, put a potted plant into your room.
  • Water: Water is linked to serenity so install a water feature in your space, like a mini fountain in your garden and a fish tank indoors.
  • Wood: Wood is associated with the colour green so green plants are the way to go.
  • Fire: Fire is linked to triangles, the colour red, and light so putting in more light fittings will incorporate this element nicely.
  • Metal: Metal is linked to circles and the colour white. A new circular white rug or coffee table will bring some metal into your space.

Feng shui is more a science than a Religion. Spring may be a good time to adopt some of its rules to re-energize yourself and your space.
