INTERVIEW WITH KOLA OSHALUSI
With his wealth of experience in the photography business, Kola Oshalusi Of Insigna Limited and some other bright minds in the Photography industry have come together to organize a conference tagged ‘The Business of Photography’ for all those looking to delve into the world of Photography.
Can you describe the moment you knew that photography would be your career of choice?
It wasn’t a moment; it was a journey, various things led to me making the decision as I moved through studies and career.
What is it that interests you most about photography?
The ability to tell a visual story and get people to understand my message.
Was photography your first choice of a career? Is it something you’ve always wanted to do?
I have always wanted to see the world, so being a pilot was top on my mind but unfortunately, my parents couldn’t afford to send me to an aviation school so I took up a course in science laboratory technology, then computer science then other short studies and now photography.
How long have you been in the business of photography?
I have been in the photography business fulltime over 12 years
In all your time as a photographer can you say you have learned all the ropes there is to learn in this business?
Lol, “The day you stop learning is the day you start dying… I have not even scratched the surface yet”
Can you talk to us about TBOP conference?
The vision is to create an annual convention for all photographers, where photographers and everyone within the value-chain can come together to talk about the industry and come up with strategies to grow the industry, share ideas on latest technology, innovation as well as foster best practice.
What informed the need for TBOP conference?
The TBOP conference was conceived out of the need for a sustainable career as well as a sustainable industry and that can only happen when those concerned come together to talk about the challenges and set out ways to proffer solutions. It’s important we understand that growth and success are products of collaborative efforts.
Who can attend the conference and what will they take away?
Anybody can attend the conference. Those within the photography value-chain and not, those who want to understand the industry and possibly invest their resources, policymakers who have the interest of the industry at heart as well as concerned with growth. Those who want to know more about photography, those who want to improve their photography skills. They sure will take away knowledge and a new drive and passion I believe.
