Hidden Gems: Tomi Owo

In this new column, we will be profiling the Hidden Gems of Nigeria Music, talented male and female musicians whose beautiful musical artistry is yet to be uncovered by the main stream music space.

This week, we are profiling a beautiful lyricist, Tomi Owo.

Enjoy!

Her sound can be described as a unique blend of Nigerian elements and the western world, illuminated more by her captivating lyrics and soothing vocals. Her lyrical prowess stretches as far as poetry and she still manages to top all this off with her impressive dancing skills.

Our hidden gem for today is the black beauty, Tomi Owó.

Our upcoming star is a born Lagosian who draws her inspiration from the many sounds – national and international – that she grew up listening to and decided to follow her driving passion till she found her own sound. Speaking of her sound, according to her website, “her music contains bits and pieces of pop, soul and afro-inspired sounds all coming together to create a genre she has termed “Alternative soul”.

Tomi finally made her dreams a reality in the year 2015 when she released her first five songs on SoundCloud and ever since then, she has been an ever-rising talent. Her last release, Versus, is a light soulful sound I particular liked because of the easy lyrics and infused contemporary beat that any music lover of any genre will enjoy. On Tomi’s music, Notjustokay says “She is a firm believer of making meaning through great music, and her lyrics and writing style exemplify that”.

She is currently working on an LP that she plans on releasing this year and with what we have heard so far, it promises to stun.

Watch out for Tomi Owó, Nigeria – She is a legend in the making.
