CAPSULE WARDROBE: THE SCIENCE OF SIMPLICITY

The “Capsule wardrobe” trend is certainly one we all should consider.

It’s basically a collection of a few basic essential items of clothing that don’t go out of fashion. Such basics are skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal Accessories.

There have been several controversies surrounding the capsule wardrobe movement, especially with the pressure placed on looking “dope” at all times. But this movement is gaining momentum steadily.

Several world famous personalities adopt this trend. Like Barack Obama (and almost every US President) who is known to wear only blue or grey suits; Mark Zuckereberg and his famous grey t-shirt and jeans, Steve Jobs and his signature turtle neck and jeans combo all adopt this method.

“I really want to clear my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how to best serve this community.” Says Mark Zuckerberg about his capsule wardrobe.

An important reason they all gave is that having a signature style improves their productivity. They claim that spending less time on frivolous decisions like “what to wear” helps them focus more on more important decisions, and these are people who are faced with really big decisions every day.

Other benefits of a limited fashion option include; less expense (although for these guys mentioned money is not a problem), less stress, less wasted energy and less wasted time. The last reason is really important as apparently the average person spends about a year of their lives just deciding what to wear.
