HOW TO FOLLOW UP AFTER AN INTERVIEW

Job Interview

Applicants tend to ask if they should follow up after an interview and the answer is Yes, yes and yes.

So you attended an interview a couple of weeks back, yet no callback, your hands are tired from refreshing your email box and so on. As expected, you are starting to feel really nervous, it is advised that you get across to the company straight away.

Ideally, the company should mention when you will be reached out to either verbally or by email. Sometimes, this doesn’t happen, so your best bet will be to get a contact number or business card of all interviews via which you can reach the company after the interview, but in a situation where this is not done, the following steps should be followed in keeping up with the interviewer or company.

Follow-Up Phone Calls:

Although it’s easier to send a quick email, making a follow-up phone call can help you secure the job. And, if the job at hand involves a lot of phone time, calling to say thanks shows you have the strong communication skills required for the position. In addition to saying thank you for consideration for your job, you can share a few of your key qualifications as a reminder, this would help refresh the impression you gave during the interview, especially if a lot of candidates were present.

Go the old fashioned way :

If you are absolutely unarmed with any of the interviewers’ email address or phone number through which you can shoot your career shot, then, not to worry, you could send a note, input the correct title and name of the interviewer as well as a few points which you took home from him or her.  Ensure that you use your best handwriting, veer away from anything too fancy or potentially risque. At the end of the note, don’t forget to add how enthusiastic you are about working with the company if you are selected. As the saying goes, ‘knowledge is power, but enthusiasm pulls the switch’.

Following up after an interview is cool because it provides you with the opportunity to clean up your interview mistakes, share what you forgot to say during the interview process and overall, promote your candidacy.

  • most candidates shy away from following up because some responses are discouraging, eg… please we will get. back to you… and if you insist you might seem too desperate which some employers do not want… but this might be workable for today’s employer
