This Self-Care Kit Will Keep You from Breaking Down Ever Again!

Self-care is a very important part of life albeit one of the most ignored. It is basically defined as the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health.

However, we have noticed that most people do not prioritize self-care. Most times it is often an afterthought or something that happens when all hell breaks loose. This shouldn’t be the case.

In this much-needed video from Lifestyle Vlogger, Torera George, we learn how to do self-care. She’s showing us how to make our own self-care kit to make sure we live better in 2020.

To help you better understand what we’re referring to, here’s a break down of the types of self-care you might be ignoring but shouldn’t.

Emotional

This has to do with your emotional state of wellbeing. Ask yourself – how often do you feel sad, happy, moody, cranky etc and rate that to know how emotionally stable you are.

Physical

This covers a huge range of things. You might have to ask yourself if you’re exercising enough, breaking out on your face, having headaches often etc.

Spiritual

This caters to all things spiritual. You might ask yourself questions like – Am I praying as often as I should be? Do I need to start meditatting? Do I need to spend more time reflecting?

Social

Social self-care has more to do with your relationship with people like your friends & acquaintances. Do you have human connections that matter to you? Are you tending to your established & beneficial relationships or not?

Professional

And here you’re looking at your professional workspace. How do you relate to your colleagues and your boss? Are you a team player and if not, whose fault is it?

To make sure that all these are in check, Torera suggests a writing exercise. Write down the 5 types of self-care listed above. Beneath them, write out questions you’d like to ask yourself under each type. Each question you ask is 5 points. Rate each question over 5, depending on how good or bad you’re doing in that area. E.g: Am I praying enough? (3mks) Do I need to meditate more? (4mks) i.e you have 7/10. The higher your marks, the more self-care you need. This example means you need to pay more attention to your spiritual self-care.
