When choosing paint for our homes, most of us tend to opt for our favorite colors, either that or magnolia. But did you know that the colors you choose can have a profound effect on your life and, indeed, your quality of sleep?
According to a study carried out by Dulux, different colors have different influences on certain areas of our lives, and with a whopping 80{54d2fcdcd494adb6982253be6fe8d5492e5f586157f419110131714f9092ec60} of us failing to regularly get a good night’s rest, it’s worth being mindful about the next tin of paint you buy for your bedroom.
For the best night’s sleep, green walls appear to be the most favorable with 25{54d2fcdcd494adb6982253be6fe8d5492e5f586157f419110131714f9092ec60} of the study showing that those with green decor got the best rest out of everyone. It also enhances productivity when used in a study. Meanwhile, as much as you might think of it as an ultra passionate color, red is the worst color you can go for, with 50{54d2fcdcd494adb6982253be6fe8d5492e5f586157f419110131714f9092ec60} of the study showing that those with red walls got the lowest quality sleep – though it does make for the most relaxing bathroom color.
If you want to create an amorous atmosphere in your bedroom, opt for black instead; as much as it may make your room look a little smaller, the study shows those with black walls are the most passionate. The opposite can be said for those with a yellow theme; possibly because those with yellow bedrooms tend to feel exhausted most of the time.
On the other hand, a yellow front door could be more fortuitous, as they tend to earn the most money – an average of £47,000, which isn’t far of twice the national average of £26,000. Meanwhile, an orange kitchen tends to be where you find the most creative cooks, while the biggest TV addicts tend to paint their living room purple. Plus, a blue hallway is a sign of an extra confident person.
A survey showed that almost half of homeowners admitted that colors were important to their wellbeing. Dulux selected Spiced Honey; a gorgeous warm amber tone; as their 2019 Color of the Year. Ambassador and author of self-help trilogy Happy, Calm and Quiet Fearne Cotton had some interesting points to make about color in relation to our feelings.
“Too often we think ‘oh I like that color’ but don’t think about the impact that can have on how we feel in that room”, she said. “We need to look at what we want from that room and then create spaces that help us feel more positive.”
“Designing your own space or putting a color on a wall is a brilliant moment where you can feel good about yourself”, she continued. “You can let the light in and feel like you did something good. You have to go with your gut and what feels right.”
Indeed Spice Honey certainly brings a sense of comfort into your living space which is, after all, what home is all about.
