TREND REPORT : MIAMI SWIM WEEK 2019
Fresh off the just concluded Miami Swim Week 2019, the one annual fashion event that brings together creatives, models, beachwear and swimwear lovers for an entire week of unadulterated itty-bitty fashion, events, runway, and trade shows where prominent and emerging designers showcase brand-new collections in the world’s most bikini-friendly city.
This year’s event kicked off with a bang, my top 3 favorite shows were Badgley Mischka, a prominent apparel designer who stunned the audience with sleek monochromes, pretty florals and classic swimwear silhouettes of halter bikinis and one-pieces some of which featured bold statements like the inclusion of ruffles. and all the latest swimwear trends that should be on your radar. Designer Vitamin A gave us our daily dose as they premiered their 20th-anniversary collection that served stylish, modern and laidback vibes. Their cheeky high leg cut-outs, high waits and plunging necklines in all our favorite hues including metallic and coral nearly had us on a swimwear overdose.
Another fun show to watch at Miami Swim Week was Chloe Rose, the show featured a 70’s barbie aesthetic, playful inflatable balloons and a super fresh and feminine vibe channeled through their figure-flattering silhouettes, bold and bright colors and flirtatious pieces. Judging by the models’ confident and energetic struts down the runway, there was no doubt that the pieces were designed with the song “girls wanna have fun” in mind.
My other favorite shows were Luli Fama, Sports Illustrated, Tori Praver, and The Black Tape Project, the designer uses regular duct tape (electrical tape) in different colors and cuts to create beautiful bikini silhouettes. I find it so creative! The shows always open with a live presentation of the designer as he adorns the model in tapes turned bikini live on the runway.
