Monday Motivation Matters

“…your talent determines what you can do, your motivation determines how much you are willing to do, your attitude determines how well you do it.” – Lou Holtz

It’s here again. The dreaded Monday. All the fun, rest and relaxation the weekend ushered in is quickly zapped away by the responsibilities of your professional life.

Some days, the motivation to channel your productive best is nowhere to be found. It may even seem like it would take a whole village of Viking warriors to get you out of your bed, and into the driver’s seat.

But it just has to be done. Success is not created by luck, but by working hard toward reaching a specific goal. Monday morning routines set the mood for the rest of the day and possibly the rest of the week.

We find that the best ways to get through the Mondayest of Mondays is through cultivating healthy, functional habits. Habits that guide your transition from weekend adventurer to weekday wench.

Setting an alarm is one of such habits. Waking up early to make sure that you have plenty of time to complete all your tasks and also ensure that you are not late for any scheduled events. It also gives you plenty of time to take care of personal chores prior to jumping into your work load.

Some recommend meditation or prayer as a tool to envision success. It’s important to quiet the mind and let the positive energy in as soon as you wake up. You can start with meditating for 5 minutes and over time increase it to half an hour per session.

Eat Breakfast! It’s imperative that your body is fueled with nutritious foods first thing in the morning. Healthy food provides energy and gets the mind and body ready for the day.

It is imperative that you keep your goals in mind. A simple reminder of ‘why’ you do what you do can go a long way in getting your mind and body into the right frame to tackle any projects or problems you might come across in your day or week.

As Dalai Lama once said “A happy mind is a healthy mind, and a healthy mind is good for the body.” There is no reason to let the pressures of your profession weigh you down. Smile.
