How an Egg Became a Celebrity Overnight.
On the 4th of January 2019, a newly opened account on Instagram (@world_record_egg) uploaded a post with the caption “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked picture on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this”. As of today, that post has gained 24 million likes, successfully dethroning Kylie as the post with the most likes on Instagram.
Yes. An egg. Not a golden egg. Not a diamond encrusted egg. Not an egg that grew from a tree. Just an egg. It is currently unknown who exactly created the account, why it was posted, or why this attempt to set a world record actually worked. An orange, lightly-freckled, waiting to be sunny side up with bacon on the side, generic chicken egg.
