#ENDSARS: You Need a Break Sis! Here are 5 Ways to Care For Yourself
The past couple of weeks have been a lot. From the onset of a revolution by the youths of Nigeria with the #ENDSARS movement, to the tragic loss of lives by the Nigerian Government’s excessive use of force. Our eyes and ears have take in a lot.
In as much as it is hard to grasp how our country has come to this point and how irresponsible Governmental bodies are being – it is important to remember YOURSELF. YOU need to take care of YOU! And, to help you do that, one of our TW reps, Amaka Onyenokwe has put together these 5 tips to help you care for yourself.
Here theey are;
Self-Care
Do something that cheers you up. It may seem selfish but you need to take care of your feelings. Take a short walk, listen to some melacholic songs, have a glass of wine – but try something that cheers you up.
Log Off
Take a break off the internet – it’s okay. Logging off from all sites helps reduce depressive thoughts about current events. Shield yourself from triggering narratives and images.
Speak to a Professional
Speaking to a mental health professional can help you navigate your feelings and thoughts at this time. Call She Writes Woman’s 24-hr toll-free line at 08008002000.
Self-Validation
Whatever you’re feeling right now – sad, angry or even exhausted, is completely valid. You are valid, your feelings are valid. Do not let anyone or anything tell you otherwise. Know that you are human and your emotions are valid.
Disengage
You don’t have to engage anyone….you don’t have to say anything, Disengaging will ensure that conversations will not trigger you. It’s fine to want to be alone with your thoughts; solitude will help calm you down.
