Women We Love: The Smart Money Maker – Arese Ugwu
Welcome to ‘Women We Love’ – our weekly column where we celebrate women doing amazing things in their areas of influence. From the tech & the fashion world to social activism & politics, these women, we think, are definitely crush-worthy.

Today, we shine a light on the Founder of Smart Money Africa – Arese Ugwu!
Arese
…has been on our #WCW list for a long time now, and it’s about time we told you why. Apart from being the cover girl for our 10th Anniversary Collector’s Edition, Arese has won our hearts in many ways.
Author
Firstly, she is the author of the best-selling book – The Smart Money Woman that took Africa by storm. The book gained popularity for its relatable tales centred on 5 women navigating the ins & outs of money. This book has so far played a huge role in educating young Africans on the power they hold in becoming smarter financially. And this growing popularity led to another notch in her belt – a TV series based on the book.
The Smart Money Woman TV series, starring Osas Ighodaro, Ini Dinma-Okojie, Lala Akindoju, Toni Tones & Ebenezer Eno, gave sight & sound to an already loved body of work. And still continues to do so.
Educator
However, as fabulous as she is, Arese isn’t all about the glitz and glam of being a celebrated author. Her passion lies in promoting financial literacy for Africa’s youth. Because of this, she has been recognized as a finalist for Access Bank’s W Awards for Young Professional of the Year in 2015; won the Rémy Martin’s Pacesetter award in 2016; and has been nominated for The Future Awards Prize for Education.
Lately, Arese Ugwu has been creating more content that we can all learn from. For International Women’s Month, she has sat with some amazing women like Chika Uwazie, Ogwa Iwezie and more on how to build & sustain wealth. These amazing audiovisual conversations can be found on her YouTube channel. Listen to a sample podcast below!
Besides all of these, she is a great mother to her beautiful daughter and a true supporter of women in Nigeria and beyond. If that is not crush-worthy, we don’t know what is.
