Sweaters, Sunglasses and Suitcases

I can’t be the only person who has a mental list of all the places I want to visit, peaks my account balance and just knows that night at the Caribbean has to wait. Traveling will seem so far-fetched mostly because we don’t plan enough.

I mean, summer in Paris sounds great but why not spend this months’ savings on the leather bag Mama Sid brought from Dubai, right? Wrong! If you want to travel and you don’t have the income for a spontaneous trip, you have to be willing to make sacrifices to make that dream a reality.

Travelling is expensive, no doubt about it. So you have to be ready for it and all its expenses.

Here’s a guide on how to do just that.

  1. Pick a place:

Trying to make up your mind on where you want to go seems so impossible. So many places, so little time right? But you have to. That way you know where to start planning from.

  1. Learn everything about the place:

What do you need to travel there? Is there a visa requirement? What are the terms of the visa? What is the political climate there? What is the culture of the people? These are the kinds of questions you would want to ask yourself. Finding out about the place and its people is important because it might affect your entire trip.

  1. Research prices:

We all know how tickets are cheaper for early birds. We want to be early birds. So check the best prices for accommodation, tour guides, special attractions, transportation, and other tourist essentials. You don’t want to be in the dark about the best deals.

  1. Save! Save! Save! :

There’s no need to stress this point. We know we ought to save to make anything happen. If your budget is N200000 start saving N20000 a week. Or any way you want to and for any period of time. But it is important to have a little over your budget to ensure you are secure.

  1. Enjoy your trip:

Now that you have made your plans and saved up, buy your tickets, sundress and enjoy! While you are enjoying the attractions, meet the locals as well. Support them. Try to add value to the place while you are there. It only makes the trip worth it.
