Fashion Designer & Mick Jagger’s Girlfriend, L’Wren Scott Dead At 47 From Apparent Suicide

 

L’Wren Scott, the glamorous fashion designer and longtime lover of Mick Jagger, used a scarf to hang herself from a doorknob Monday in her Manhattan apartment. The former model was found dead by her assistant around 10 a.m. — about an hour-and-a-half after Scott texted her to come over, police sources said.

The assistant, who had let herself into the swanky New York pad with her own key, immediately called 911, the sources said.

But Scott, 47, who had been dating the Rolling Stones singer since 2001, was beyond saving when police and paramedics arrived, they said. Scott, whose designs have been worn by everyone from Oscar winners like Angelina Jolie and Sandra Bullock to First Lady Michelle Obama, was found fully clothed and did not leave a note.

Police, however, suspect suicide and Scott’s body was taken by the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Jagger, in a statement released by a spokesman, said he is “completely shock and devastated by the news.” There were also stunned words of grief from the fashion world, where Scott was a star long before she crossed paths with the British rock star.

Scott’s friend, celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch, remembered her as “impeccable, chic and so tall.” “L’Wren is probably the only person I look at her Instagram and say she has such a glamorous life,” Bloch said. “She was always on a plane. She was always very controlling, strong.” And, said Bloch, Scott was “other worldly, with a Mad Men ‘50s elegance.”

“Her dresses are her: They are tall, elegant,” he said. “She would always said, ‘Daaahling, hi. How are you friend?’”
Fashion maven Simon Doonan, who was the artistic director at Barney’s for many years, said “we’re totally devastated.”

“She was part of the Barneys family,” he said. “Personally speaking, we were very close friends for a long time. We met in the early ’90s.” “She was a very unique, sparkling, glamorous, highly intelligent and extremely funny,” he said. “She was a unique girl.” Doonan said he saw her last “a couple months ago.” “Personally she was a magical, compelling,” he said.
In Los Angeles, the current owner over the Bronson Canyon house that Scott sold five years ago said, “Oh my God, I can’t believe it.” “I have goose bumps,” said Ali Kachouri. “We still have the same housekeeper who was very close with her. I’ve never heard of any problems or any history of depression. It’s shocking.”

Jagger and the Stones were on tour in Australia when Scott hanged herself. But Sir Mick and Scott were an item for 13 years — longer than he was married to Bianca Jagger (eight years) and Jerry Hall (nine years).

Actress Nicole Kidman, who was Scott’s close friend and wore some of her designs, also owns a pad in the 11th Ave. tower. So does Dolce & Gabbana fashion house co-founder Domenico Dolce. Scott was already a star in her world when she crossed paths with Jagger. She was 6-foot-3 inches and towered over the legendary lothario whose past is littered with famous beauties.

A stunning brunette who was born Luann Bambrough and adopted by a Mormom couple, Scott went from high school hottie in sleepy Roy, Utah, to the walking the catwalks in Paris after she was discovered by fashion photographer Bruce Weber at a Calvin Klein shoot.

Scott went on to pose for big name brands like Thierry Mugler and Chanel, before moving to California in the early ‘90s and re-establishing herself as a sought-after stylist.

Scott also launched her fashion brand in 2006. Sarah Jessica Parker, Oprah Winfrey, Jolie and Kidman have all worn her gowns to the Academy Awards. Other stars who have worn Scott’s designs include Reese Witherspoon and Christina Hendricks.

Scott’s work can also be seen on the big-screen: She designed the costumes for 1996’s “Diabolique,” “Ocean’s Thirteen,” “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Shine a Light,” Martin Scorsese’s documentary about The Rolling Stones.

For reasons still unclear, Scott last month announced she had canceled her London Fashion Week show.

In an eerie coincidence, Scott’s official Facebook page and Twitter account had new posts appear online around the time of her death.
