It is assumed that because the weather is moist during the rainy season, people with dry skin don’t suffer much at this time. The opposite is the case as the rainy season causes the air to be chilly which causes the little moisture in the skin to evaporate faster. We knew that and that’s why we are sharing 5 of our daytime must-have products for dry skin in Naija.
With each skin type come different requirements based on texture, concerns, etc. Products and order of application are equally important. That’s why we’ll be sharing application techniques alongside our must-have products for dry skin.
Here are our top 5 must-have products for dry skin
- Cleanser
This is a necessary step in every skincare regimen. It’s essential for getting rid of dirt and bacteria from the environment as well as oil, cosmetics, and dead skin cells. You can’t and shouldn’t bypass this important first step in any skincare regimen. If you do, there is a risk of blocked pores, acne, dull skin and faster ageing. Be sure to use a moisturising cleanser so it doesn’t strip your skin bare.
Application: Massage cleanser into skin and countdown 60 seconds before rinsing off with room temperature water.
We recommend the L’Oreal Cerave Hydrating Cleanser
- Toner
This will effectively finish the job the face cleanser began. You will get clean, calm skin by using a toner to help tone your skin and remove any impurities that were left behind. Ensure it is alcohol-free to avoid drying out already dry skin.
Application: either apply onto a fresh cotton pad and swipe gently over the skin or apply onto hands and pat into skin until fully absorbed.
We recommend the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner. The Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner is also great for dry skin as niacinamide improves hydration.
- Vitamin C Serum
Loaded with antioxidants to protect the skin, it helps the skin barrier and improves water retention in dry skin. Vitamin C also works well to brighten the skin for a better appearance. It typically has a liquid or gel consistency and is to be applied daily.
Application: start with just a couple of drops and pat into the skin until absorbed. These usually come with a dropper but, avoid touching the dropper to your skin to avoid the transfer of external bacteria into the serum.
We recommend Balance Active Formula Skincare Vitamin C Brightening Serum
- Moisturizer
It’s crucial to choose the proper moisturizer for your skin type. Use a moisturizer that is in the form of a soft or gel-like cream if you have dry skin. For dry skin, moisturiser MUST deliver hydration.
Application: scoop a little moisturiser onto the palm or directly unto the face and spread evenly all over with the fingers making sure to massage into the skin until fully absorbed.
We recommend the Arami Essentials Hydra Gel
- Sunscreen
The goal should always be to choose a sunscreen that gives extra moisture to the skin for anyone with dry skin. It helps with a wide range of issues, including hyperpigmentation, fine wrinkles, and acne, and shields skin from UV damage, which can cause several other issues. Make sure to get one that works great for African skin and leaves no white cast.
Application: apply like a moisturiser. If liquid in texture, pat into skin with fingers until fully absorbed.
We recommend La Roche-Posay Anthelios Dermo-Pediatrics Hydrating Fluid SPF50+
