Get the Look: Back-To-School Makeup

back to school makeup

It’s Back-To-School season and we all know that the best makeup for school is natural, fresh and gives you a carefree glow. It conceals your flaws and highlights your features beautifully. Wondering how to achieve this? Here are 10 easy steps:

  • Cleanse:

Use lukewarm water to lather up and then thoroughly rinse your skin. Your skin should be clean and dry for the best makeup application. Use lukewarm water and a mild cleanser made specifically for your skin type to wash your face. After that, use a soft towel to gently pat your face dry or preferably, leave it to air-dry.

Some of our favourite gentle cleansers are the Blot Beauty Foam Cleanser and the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin

  • Moisturize:

Using a product that provides both hydration and protection is important. Skin that has been moisturized is the ideal surface for natural makeup. Apply a pea-sized amount of an oil-free, non-comedogenic facial moisturizer all over your face. Give the product on your skin about a minute to absorb.

We are loving the new Arami Hydra gel for all skin types

  • Apply foundation:

If you want to even out your skin tone, stick with a light foundation. Avoid using heavy, full-coverage foundations because they can make you break out and make you look unnatural. Tinted moisturizer, BB cream, and foundation with a thin or light coverage are all excellent choices for a lovely, natural appearance. Spread a thin layer of foundation over your face using your fingers or a foundation brush, starting in the middle and blending outward to your cheeks, forehead, and chin.

We’ll be the first to admit that because of our weather, Nigerian brands go for heavier formulas. However, there is a way out – lighten your foundation with moisturiser. My favourite light-weight moisturiser for thinning foundation is the new Blot Hydra Priming Moisturiser, add a pump or 2 to a dime size amount of foundation and apply all over your face until lightly covered evenly

  • Cover blemishes:

A dab of concealer can cover flaws like blackheads. Pick a concealer that complements your skin tone, then apply a small amount directly from the applicator to any dark spots or zits you may have. The concealer should then be lightly blended out around the area with a small makeup brush or your clean fingertip, and you’re done.

Try the Zaron Liquid Concealer

  • Set with powder:

If you have oily skin, lightly dust your face with powder using a fluffy brush. Use a translucent powder or a setting powder that complements your skin tone. To apply a light layer of powder all over your face, use a fluffy kabuki brush or a fluffy powder puff. Your foundation is sealed in and any shiny areas are removed.

Two of our current favourite loose powders with super fine granules are the Zaron Veil Highlight & Setting Powder and the Blot Beauty Silk Loose Powder

  • Apply blush:

Cream blush formulas blend easily and have a very natural appearance. Choose a rose or peach-coloured blush, then apply it to the apples of your cheeks with your fingertips or a blush brush. For a soft, healthy-looking flush, blend the blush outward toward your hairline using circular motions.

  • Apply mascara:

This makes your lashes look longer and opens up your eyes. Curl your lashes and completely omit mascara for a very subtle eye look. Apply 1-2 light coats of mascara to your top lashes only if you want to enhance your lashes slightly.

  • Apply eyeliner:

The eyes are given more attention as a result. The face would look sharper and higher-lifted if eyeliner were used.

  • Fill in brows:

Make sure the product you use on your brows closely resembles the colour of your hair. Using brow powder or a pencil can give your brows more definition if they are a little patchy or very blonde. With a clean spoolie, start by combing both brows upward. Then, using a brow pencil or powder, fill in any bald spots using light, feathery strokes. To evenly distribute the makeup, go over each brow with a spoolie once more.

  • Apply lipgloss:

For a smidgen of colour, apply a sheer rose or nude lip gloss. If your lips are hydrated, they already look gorgeous, so you might only need a tiny bit of balm to finish your look. Apply a clear or natural-looking lip gloss for a little shine. A great way to add some colour without looking unnatural is with a lip stain that looks natural.
