Osine & Anesi Ikhianosime: Nigerian Teen Geniuses Who Have Built A Mobile Web Browser

1-Osine-and-Anesi

Allow us to introduce you to two Nigerian teens doing something absolutely phenomenal. Anesi (12) and Osine Ikhianosime (14) are brothers who built the new web browser – Crocodile Browser Lite.

The two brothers taught themselves how to write code and then built their first mobile web browser, which is hosted on the Google Play Store, and available to download as a free app.

According to Osine, they write the code together, while Anesi designs the User Interface (UI).

Anesi and Osine were only 12 and 14 when they decided to learn to code. Due to their strong interest in technology, they decided to create a functional, fast browser for feature and low end phones because, according to them, “We were fed up with Google Chrome.” Osine who told TechCabal in his pitch mail said: ‘’I write the code, my brother designs it.” said Anesi. “I started in 2013. I used sites like Code Academy, Code Avengers and books like ‘Android for Game Development’ and ‘Games for Dummies.’”

They initially launched Crocodile on the Mobango app store, before taking it to the Google Play Store so it could reach a wider audience. The browser currently has around 5,000 downloads.

The brothers are currently Year 9 and Year 11 students of Greensprings School, Anthony Campus, Lagos.

Their mother, Mrs. Ngozi Ikhianosime, a math teacher, said, “Oseni could use a PC before he could read, at age 3.” Although their parents can take most of the credit for their accomplishments at such early ages, Mrs. Ikhianosime also credits the school they attended for encouraging their love of coding. They had access to computers in school, and they had personal laptops at home.

Their father Mr Philip Ikhianosime, who is the Head of Management Services and Human Resource Manager at an Insurance Company says the boys developed interest in PC usage very early. He agrees as well that his children’s school were very instrumental in their continued interest in programming.
