Chick Chat With Connie Girl: Rules of Engagement, Should Churches Marry Pregnant Brides?

Hello Guys! It’s #TalkTuesday A.K.A #ChickChat. Do you think it’s intrusive that a church performs a mandatory pregnancy test a month before your wedding? Read & Comment!

My friend Mabel and her fiancé Tade have been engaged for a year and their wedding is approaching in a month. The two love birds were hurriedly enrolled into couples counselling and a few other martial programs within the church as soon as they announced their engagement. They were certainly coached through the “rules of engagement”. One of which was, the church won’t  marry a pregnant bride. We all know this! This is of course normal for a minister to refuse since one shouldn’t really be fornicating anyway. But, what seemed like a set up to me is how this situation played out.

On the last day of one of the programs, Mabel was asked to take a mandatory pregnancy test at the facility clinic to make sure she was not pregnant. She wasn’t expecting them to test and it wasn’t mentioned prior. Well, it turns out Mabel and her fiancé had been up to some hanky panky and the test came out positive!!! She is pregnant and now the church is saying they won’t marry them.

The wedding reception is on the church premises and finding another location is almost impossible in peak season and with only four weeks to go. I feel bad for my friend because this is good news for her and her fiancé, Tade but yet she has received such rejection from the church. Her parents have tried to reason with the pastor but he maintains his principles.

Whilst I understand church leaders wear a heavy crown and have a congregation to lead “aright”, isn’t it hypocritical if others who routinely fornicate within the same church but happen not to get pregnant get the same pastors matrimonial blessing? Is there a purity test for others?

I am torn between whether I think this is fanaticism or is this a case of religions have rules for a reason! Don’t get mad at the pastor. Should this pastor play “God” and punish members for their shortcomings?

Is this “spirikoko” system too old fashioned for my modern sensibilities or do you agree with the pastor upholding the churches value system? #PleaseJudge #ChurchWedding #PregnantBride
