Ifeyinwa’s Durban Travel Diary: City Tour, Bungee Jumping & The Pre-MAMA Party
Hi tw Fam,
We are continuing Ifeyinwa’s travel diary of the beautiful city of Durba, South Africa. Catch up on Day One HERE.
Here’s what she has to say about Day 2 of her 5 day trip to the stunning tourist town for the MTV MAMA Awards in July.
Day Two kicked off with a bus tour of the beautiful city of Durban. And even though it was nearly a month ago, I remember this day so vividly because it was such a gorgeous dat. I normally find these kinds of things incredibly boring but our tour guide was so engaging and we got to make stops along the way and take pictures, which was perfect!
After that we went by the Moses Mabhida Stadium where the brave amongst us decided to go bungee jumping at Big Rush – the world’s largest bungee swing! Now anyone that knows me, knows I’m VERY afraid of heights – this includes looking out of windows on tall buildings, roller coasters, and most DEFINITELY jumping from a 60 metre free fall drop! That day was NOT the day I was going to conquer my fears people, so I sat that one out and spent the rest of the afternoon watching everyone else. Did I feel like a loser? Kind of. Would I go back and try it? Never!
A quick change at the hotel and we were off to dinner at the Roma Revolving Restaurant. I know quite a few cities have these sorts of restaurants where the dining room rotates (so slowly you can hardly notice it) so you’re able to have a 360 degrees view of the city while you eat –this was my first tine at a revolving restaurant and it was pretty sick! The decor of the restaurant was a little dark and dated for me, but their food was INCREDIBLE. Italian food is one of my least favourite cuisines and yet this main was my favourite meal of the trip. I had the fish of the day, mashed potatoes and carrots – it might not look like much but I really enjoyed it. The restaurant also makes their own wine and set up a mini wine tasting after dinner. I took a bottle of their red and rose back to Nigeria with me – let’s just say they were really popular gifts.
After dinner we went to the pre-MAMA party at Club 47 (in a LIMO!!!) and this was as close as I came to meeting Neyo! And by meeting I mean seeing him about 40 feet away from me. Lol. The club was pretty packed but SA Tourism hooked us up with a table and drinks. We danced our hearts away until I snuck away in an Uber back to my hotel room at 2am – I’m definitely not as cool I used to be lol
