Monday Motivation Matters: Don’t Get Crippled by Overthinking – Act Now!

We know – it’s Monday and everything seems to be in a rush. First, the weekend rushed sway, then 36 new e-mails rushed into your inbox, and now you have to rush to work. We get it – all you want to do is a take a breath, make sure you’re seeing things clearly and reduce mistakes usually made when there’s a rush. But we’re here to tell you, that while you’re thinking things over, make sure you don’t overthink.

Overthinking is a bit of a weird concept but its existence is very real and has some damning consequences. When you overthink, you cripple yourself – you repeatedly analyze, dissect and break & make decisions over and over again. And this is not only time-wasting, it also contributes to anxiety and depression. But worse still, overthinking stops you from taking action.

In your desire to conquer new markets, take on new challenges and explore more opportunities, you may be crippling your efforts by overthinking. Replaying each little aspect in your mind over and over again in a loop wastes your time. It also makes you question everything and stops you from taking actionable steps to achieving great results.

So what’s to be done? How can you stop overthinking and start taking more action? Simple!

  • Figure out your tell-tale signs. For me, I have palpitations. Whenever I start to overthink, my heart gives me a heads up by picking up its pace. That way I know to stop and breathe.
  • Break the cycle by making a move. Make that call, take that exam, speak to that investor. Once you notice that you’re thinking about the same thing repeatedly, take a quick decision and move forward.
  • Give yourself a timeframe. If you find yourself starting to think on a particular thing, time yourself to make sure you stop thinking about it at a particular time. This way your mind starts providing solutions faster.

This may not have helped a lot of people, but we hope it helped you. If it did, share a part that helped you the most.
