Chiwetel Ejiofor & Thandie Newton Cover TW Magazine’s May Issue
This month’s cover stars are none other than the man of the moment Chiwetel Ejiofor & his Half Of A Yellow Sun co-star Thandie Netwon. Fresh off his BAFTA award win for Best Actor, Oscar nomination and a super busy awards season that saw him walk red carpets and attend award shows from London to Los Angelese. Chiwetel visited Nigeria recently to premiere the movie adaptation of the Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie novel of the same name.
Losing his father at the very young age of 11, Chiwetel opens up for the first time about how his mother (Obiajulu Ejiofor) raised him and his siblings alone; and how the movie Half Of A Yellow Sun, (HOAYS) resonates with him. His then 13-year-old mother was directly affected by the Biafra war in which she lost a brother. Chiwetel also speaks candidly about growing up in a very Nigerian household and his hopes for the Nigerian film industry, which he plans to be a part of.
We also speak to the director Biyi Bandele and executive producer Yewande Sadiku about the 6-year labour of love that birthed the epic tale of love and war, which is set during the Nigerian Civil war of the 1960s.
Our celebrity page this month features four key actors from the HOAYS movie Gloria Young, Tina Mba, Naya Amobi and Reginald Ofodile as they give us a glimpse into what working behind the scenes of the big budget movie was like.
Singer-songwriter Aramide, goes beyond melodies with us, and Abuja based Nigeria Info presenter Inya Odeh and Jibeh Ologeh (CEO R-Wells Media) are also on board.
In Keeping with the Mothers’ theme, 3 women share their child rearing experiences and challenges, from waiting for the pitter patter of feet, to struggling to manage their “terrible two’s” and grappling with children in the chrysalis of adulthood.
Our fashion pages kick off with an editorial that pays homage to moms, featuring artist Barbara Alli and her son Kalvin as they hit the streets of Vienna in fun, creative and edgy Ankara inspired pieces. Our “Practical Girls Guide” presents a refreshing swimwear collection from Andre Inyamah and innovative flats made with African fabric from Kene Rapu.
