JOY ERUPTS IN YOBE AS BOKO HARAM RETURN DAPCHI GIRLS

Boko haram - Dapchi girls

Joy erupts in Dapchi town, Yobe state as Boko Haram return 91 Schoolgirls after 33 days of abduction.

At about 8.00 am on Wednesday the 21st of March, the residents of Dapchi town awoke to the presence of the schoolgirls kidnapped by the Nigerian Islamist militant group, Boko Haram.

The schoolgirls aged between 11 and 19 years old were kidnapped in February from the Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi, located in Bulabulin, Yunusari Local Government area of Yobe state.

According to SaharaReporters, the terrorist group came with the girls in 9 vehicles, the same way they were kidnapped. Some of the girls were first dropped off in a nearby village while the rest were dropped off at the centre of Dapchi.

Sadly, 5 of the girls are feared dead, it was gathered that they died from suffocation and were buried in the bush. Two of the deceased girls hailed from Jumbam, a village close to Dapchi.

One of the schoolgirls named Grema noted that a fellow student, Leah was still being held hostage because she refused to denounce her Christian faith.

The schoolgirls claimed to have been well-taken care of as they well fed, received health care, not molested nor beaten under any circumstance.

It has not been ascertained if any ransom was paid by the federal government to secure the girls.

Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture mentioned in a statement that the release of the girls was ‘unconditional’, he further added that for the release to work, the government had a clear understanding that violence and confrontation would not be the way out as it could endanger the lives of the girls.

We are however gladdened by this recent development and we are thankful that the Dapchi girls have finally reunited with their parents and family after all this time apart.
