The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are still underway and Nigeria has its first couple of medals! 25-year-old Ese Brume snagged 3rd place with a bronze medal in the Women’s Long Jump event.

Brume leapt 6.97 metres with her very first jump to claim the bronze. She shared the awards platform with second-placed Brittany Reece of the United States and gold medallist Malaika Mihambo of Germany. She has also been awarded $7,500 for winning a medal.

4. She is a three-time African Senior Champion in the Long Jump and holds a personal best of 7.17 m (23 ft 6+1⁄4 in).

5. She is the African Junior Record Holder in the event and also a five-time African Junior Champion in Athletics.

6. Brume was the Long Jump Gold Medalist at the 2013 African Junior Athletics Championships, 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 African Senior Athletics Championships and 2015 African Junior Athletics Championships. She also represented Nigeria at the World Junior Championships in Athletics in 2014.

7. Brume represented Nigeria at the 2016 Olympic Games where she placed 5th in the Long Jump final with a leap of 6.81m.
