#THROWBACKTHURSDAY TRIBUTE TO VENO MARIOGHAE’S SONG – “NIGERIA GO SURVIVE”

Remember the song that rocked the airwaves back in the eighties, 1984 to be precise, “Nigeria go Survive” by Veno Marioghae. The song seemed apt at the time as things seemed to be going downhill for Nigerians back then. President Buhari was in Government then also. Oil prices were crashing, basic amenities were non-existent or in a terrible state, the song with striking lyrics like …….Andrew no check out oooo, Nigeria go survive seemed like a message of hope in the middle of that crisis. Nigerians in their characteristic resilient spirit embraced the song back then, and the message of hope that it brought.

Fast forward 32 years, (yes 32!) later, the Delta State singer has since left the music scene; now married with three children. But the message in this song couldn’t be more apt today. Buhari is back in government, oil prices are at an all time low and Nigerians are going through the worst recession in over 30 years.

There is no better time to dust off the records and relive the good old days than now. Listening to Veno yet once again, tag a friend to reminisce and remember, we survived back in the 80s and Nigeria will survive this recession also.
