Movie Review: The Black Silhouette Featuring Joke Silva & Ivie Okujaye
The Black Silhouette gave me goosebumps from start to finish. The gritty drama tells the traumatic past of a woman about to make history as the first female governor in Nigeria. Despite a past full of sexual abuse, prostitution and murders, Senator Maro Oti (Joke Silva) overcame all to become a prominent figure.
I applaud the storyline, however the technical aspect of the movie greatly disappointed me. In one scene, the camera was shaking. Actually shaking! And the audio levels were a bit off at different times.
This was redeemed by Joke Silva and Ivie Okujaiye! Both gave stellar performances but I think the writers needed to have given the audiences more. For instance….How did Senator Maro Oti overcome such terrible circumstances to become a politician? I was a bit dismayed when the movie ended and we still didn’t know how Maro reached such amazing heights.
Overall, this movie was a three out of five and that’s because the story kept me enthralled for it’s entirety.
