In a fix over what to do this weekend?? AbOriginal Theatre, the theatre arm of AbOriginal Productions Limited, an entertainment company specialising in music, theatre, television, and film, is set to premiere its latest theatre production: Fractures. This was announced on January 9, 2017 at a press conference held at AbOriginal’s corporate offices.
The press conference was led by AbOriginal’s Chief Executive Officer and executive producer
for Fractures, Ikhane Akhigbe, and AbOriginal’s Chief Operating Officer and the show’s
producer, Nike Taylor, with the show’s director, Kenneth Uphopho, and members of the cast
and production crew, including Gideon Okeke, Patrick Diabuah, Funmi Eko-Ezeh, Ropo
Ewenla, Beverly Naya, Timi Fadipe, Tunji Sotimirin, and Bolanle Haastrup-Atitebi, in
attendance.
Fractures is an adaptation of A View From The Bridge, Arthur Miller’s classic study of cultural
conflict and emotional self-discovery. This is the second time the Nigeria-based creative arts
production company will be producing Fractures, the first being in 2010.  The show touches on the themes of romantic love, marriage fidelity, and obsession, raising the question, “When does love go too far?”
Speaking on why the Company decided to use an adaptation, Ms. Taylor enthused, “At AbOriginal, we don’t restrict ourselves to a particular genre, as we like to vary things. We chose this play because it is good material. Although it is originally an American theatrical work, we have put our Nigerian stamp on it and adapted it to the Nigerian environment and culture”.
Theatre and plays are no longer old school, or restricted to grown-ups. A lot of pop culture is now infused to keep the younger generation interested , with more open lines of communication.  In Mr. Akhigbe’s words, “Come to class, come to AbOriginal university and learn”.
Fractures will be playing at MUSON Centre’s Agip Hall on 14 and 15 January at 3:00pm and
6:00pm each day. So make sure to get ut of the house this weekend and keep a date with Fractures at MUSON. For more information:
