BOOM: THE SUPERSONIC FUTURE OF AIR FLIGHTS
Supersonic flight has existed for over fifty years but hasn’t been efficient enough for routine travel until now.
Since we said goodbye to Concorde twelve and a half years ago, there hasn’t been a viable supersonic passenger jet. Although there have been several concepts and a few prototypes in the works, we haven’t had anything like BOOM supersonic flight. Until now.
Boom is the prototype for a new supersonic passenger airplane made by pilot and former Amazon executive Blake Scholl. The jet promises to be faster than any other airline and vows to be super affordable for everyone by using existing technologies to keep costs low.
With breakthrough aerodynamic design, state-of-the-art engine technology, and advanced composite materials it is unarguably an ultra-fast airliner as efficient and affordable as business class in today’s subsonic wide-body airliners.
Boom is 2.6 times faster than any other airliner, which is slightly faster than Concorde’s 2.0 speeds. Transatlantic trips can be done in a single business day saving up to about three hours, forty five minutes, while transpacific trips are up to two days faster.
Engineering development of XB-1 (“Baby Boom”) is proceeding rapidly, with aerodynamics defined, systems ground tested, and initial structural components in fabrication. Vehicle assembly starts shortly, with test flight planned for late 2017.
