Ambode Dissociates Himself From The Oba Of Lagos Over Igbo Death Threats
Following the release of the audio and the video of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, threatening the lives of the Igbo people in Lagos, the spokesperson of the Palace released a statement trying to explain the harsh words of the Oba and trying to control what seems like a call by the throne to engage in violence after the forthcoming elections.
Despite the statement by the Oba’s spokesperson, various personalities and groups have condemned the speech including the son of the former Governor of Anamra State, Chief C.C. Onoh, who has threatened to take the Oba to the ICC (The International Criminal Court). Femi Fani-Kayode also made it clear that the same threat was issued following the presidential elections and has warned that such threats were allowed to go but should any harm come to any of its supporters in any region, the PDP will have no choice but to retaliate.
Sensing the damage done by the Oba’s comments, APC Guber candidate Akinwunmi Ambode has come out to make a statement opposing the speech of the Oba, In a statement released to the press, he promised that all ethnic groups are safe under him. He also emphasized that he will not discriminate against any ethnic or religious group.
This could very well be interpreted as an irony considering that the Oba of Lagos was speaking in favour of the APC candidate, Ambode who he says has the backing of the throne. Thus, if the throne and the crown including the ancestors have spoken through Oba Akiolu, should we believe that he has also spoken for the chosen one, Akinwunmi Ambode?
