Buhari, Tinubu Mourn Emir Of Borgu – Guardian

EMINENT Nigerians, including president Muhammadu Buhari and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have express sadness over the death of the Emir of Borgu in Niger State, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro III.

In a statement by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, the President said he received with great sadness and a deep feeling of immense personal and national loss, news of the passing away of the monarch.

‘External factor’ caused Sinai crash – BBC

The Russian airline Kogalymavia has blamed “external activity” for Saturday’s Sinai plane crash which killed 224 people.

One airline official said: “The only reasonable explanation is that it was [due to] external activity.”

An investigation by aviation experts using data from the aircraft’s “black boxes” has yet to give its conclusions.

A Kremlin spokesman has told the BBC terrorism could not be ruled out as a possible cause of the crash.

Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt (CNN) A Russian passenger jet broke into pieces in midair, a top aviation official said Sunday, but he said it was too soon to say what could have caused the crash in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

The plane crash Saturday morning killed all 224 people aboard Kogalymavia Flight 9268 and left debris strewn across a remote area of a region plagued by a violent Islamic insurgency.

ABUJA— The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, has revealed why anti-graft agencies in the country often fail to successfully prosecute high profile criminal cases.

According to the CJN, aside the fact that the agencies conduct shoddy investigations before rushing accused persons to court, in some cases, “up to 200-count charges are brought before the court”, a procedure which he said “makes mockery of the constitution and the laws”.
