Welcome to a brand new week and a brand new month – how the year seems to be flying by. Well, as we get deeper and deeper into the year, it almost seems like Nigeria is getting worse. And in many ways, she is. Insecurity, bad power supply, heartless killings, lack of proper communication and empathy from the Nigerian government – there’s a lot. And as we look at all of this, we see how important it is for us to be more intentional about loving ourselves. It’s the least we can do.

Thankfully, YouTuber, Dimma Umeh recently shared how she has been putting herself first in recent times. After taking a long break from her online presence, Dimma uploaded an update. She revealed how she has struggled with her mental health for some time and had to seek help. And if we are being honest, this sounds like a lot of us today.

Nigerians are going through a lot today, and even though we all have a part to play, we have to start from us. Showing yourself love will enable you to show your neighbour love and as the numbers grow, it affects more and more people. So as we get into this new week, let’s take a look at 3 ways we learned how to show ourselves more love from Dimma Umeh.

  1. Take the pressure off: The world has always seemed to be fast-paced. For centuries, people have struggled to play catch up with how fast everyone else seems to be moving. But what you see is far from reality. It is important to give yourself a break and take the pressure off. The destination isn’t the most important part, the journey is. A lot of people don’t get to the destination, but everyone goes through the journey. Will you enjoy it or will you be stuck dealing with the pressure?
  2. Seek help: Sometimes, we are so stuck in figuring things out ourselves that we overlook others who can help. Getting help via therapy still has a bad stigma today, but this has helped many women and men to figure themselves out. From self-love to career, millions seek helo today, and that could be just what you need.
  3. Cancel the noise: Social media has such a strong presence in our lives today. We pay attention to likes, comments, views, retweets, shares, and saves – and all of these now form our perception of self. Outside noise can very easily alter what is reality for us – in other words, social media and real-life are very different. To love yourself the way you deserve, you need to cancel the outside noise and focus on yourself. Don’t base your self-worth on who is watching or paying attention to you. Put you first and cancel the noise everyone else is making.
