World Vitiligo Day is celebrated on the 25th of June every year and it is the ideal opportunity to intensify the awareness on this unique skin condition.
Quite a number of people who have the skin condition have been stigmatized and most people don’t know much about it. So, here are 5 facts that you should know.
- Vitiligo is a disorder in which white patches of skin appear on different parts of the body.
- Vitiligo can also affect the mucous membranes, such as the tissue inside the mouth and nose and the eye.
- Vitiligo can happen at any age but most people develop it in their twenties.
- Vitiligo can be genetic as it is likely to run in the families. When a parent has Vitiligo, the children are likely to get it but most children will not get vitiligo even if a parent has it.
- People with Vitiligo are likely to get upset or depressed about the change in their appearance. So, they need our love and support to feel comfortable in their skin.
