Nigerian Actor Sope Aluko Shines In Black Panther

Nigerian actress, Sope Aluko, gave a stunning performance as a Shaman – the spiritual leader of Wakanda, who oversees the ritual that grants the Black Panther his superhuman abilities. Being the only credited Nigerian in the Black Panther movie, Sope has caught the eyes of Nigerian media and is at this moment, the talk of the town.

And as is our style, we’ve brought to you, a brief scoop on Sope and everything concerning her – from past to present.

Sope is a Nigerian born citizen of both the US and the UK, who has been in love with acting since she was little. She was raised primarily in the UK, but spent her childhood living in and traveling to various countries worldwide – including but not limited to Tanzania, Indonesia, and France. To wrap the multicultural show-up, Sope speaks four languages including her native language of Yoruba, French, and Bahasa. Presently she lives in Miami and is part of a family consisting of her husband and two teenage sons.

She wanted to follow her dreams of acting, but her parents didn’t approve and so she studied Production Engineering at Nottingham Trent University. However, in her third year of school, she worked at Lipton’s marketing department for a few months and she loved the experience; deciding that marketing was a better way for her to express her creativity, she decided to get an MBA in marketing and Management after completing her engineering degree. Thus began, the start of a prosperous career in marketing and advertising.

However, true love never dies, and Sope took acting classes and studied the entertainment industry from the sidelines. She attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and eventually left corporate America in 2009 for a full-time career as an actor.

So far, Sope has starred in movie titles such as Netflix’s ‘Bloodline’, NBC’s ‘Law & Order SVU’, ‘Pitch Perfect 2’, ‘96 Minutes’, and ‘Grass Stains’. Her role in Black Panther is her biggest role so far and she hopes it leads to larger roles for her.

That said, she is set to star alongside Tom Hardy in the coming Venom movie, and we’ll also see her alongside Taraji P. Henson in “Best of enemies”, and lastly opposite J.K. Simmons in “Counterpart.”

We can’t wait to see more of her on the big screen!
