June 2 2019 was an unforgettable one for the fifty women that joined today’s woman for her day out for women’s mental health. With the support of Axa Mansard, Radisson Blu, Sanusi Studios, Zaron, Baby Lounge, and a wonderful line up of speakers, the ladies were able to unpack all they could about mental health and general well being.
Dr. Maymunah Kadiri, who shared how even she has had to use the help of a psychiatrist to get over personal loss, presented the keynote.
She raised alarm at the growing rate of suicide calling on everyone to be more kind towards people with mental health issues and always encourage them to seek help.
Guest speaker, Mr. Rotimi Ashley-Dejo spoke in like manner describing his fifteen year battle with mental health and concluding that once he came to terms with the fact that it is no different form other non communicable health problems like diabetes, he has chosen the path of accepting help and is right now “winning the fight”, living a very fulfilled life with his family. Ladies in the house gave his wife a standing ovation for standing by her man.
Other speakers include, Yomi Anenih who has lived through loss, Titilola Ijimakinwa, a matured single woman, Yemisi Busari a corporate high flyer and former deputy governorship aspirant, actress Abiola Segun Williams, and Sholape Adio an entrepreneur. Everyone spoke from a place of experience of surviving high stress situations sharing tips on how they each coped. Eyiyemi Rogbinyin in sharing hers showcased some amazing work from her women’s clothing line, Eyiyemi Olivia, modeled by regular women.
The high point of the event was the call to action by Dudun Peterside of Narita learning that is partnering with TW to make this day not a talk only activity. Everyone is automatically on the network of support, that is the action part. And right there and then two ladies broke down sharing the challenges they were currently going through and Dr. Kadiri and Mrs. Peterside offered professional services to help them deal with it.
However, Karaoke, sips and dancing made the day a fun one.
