Why Monaco Royals Won’t Attend “Grace Of Monaco” Premiere

MONACO’S royal family are said to be upset with elements of the forthcoming Grace of Monaco film – and as a result will not attend the premiere. The family asked for a screening of the film ahead of the premiere, Page Six reports, but the film’s producer, Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, refused the request.

“Prince Albert is angry about the film,” a source told Page Six. “His concern is that Grace is glorified and Prince Rainier is depicted as a weak, one-sided leader, who is controlling over his wife. Albert fears the movie vilifies his father. It was Pierre’s decision not to screen the movie for the royal family, and their requests for changes have been ignored. They won’t be at the premiere.”

The reports suggest that relations between the family and the filmmakers have not thawed – after a statement released by the family last year questioned the film’s veracity even as it was still being made.

“The royal family wishes to stress that this film in no way constitutes a biopic,” an official comment from the House of Grimaldi said. “It recounts one rewritten and needlessly glamourised page in the history of Monaco and its family, with both major historical inaccuracies and a series of purely fictional scenes.”
