Behind the Scenes of Glamour: The Toke Makinwa & Maje Ayida TW Magazine Cover!
Working for a women’s magazine is the stuff of novels and films – think Devil Wear’s Prada and 13 Going On 30. Luckily for me, I don’t have a sociopathic boss but I get to do really cool things. One of those things was working at the March cover shoot with Toke Makinwa and her husband, Maje Ayida. I was assigned the job of taking behind the scenes photos and videos of the shoot. I took this job really seriously. I charged my phone and stopped myself from bragging about working behind the scenes on Facebook. I made sure I had lunch on the way there, dressed appropriately (a camisole with a cardigan just in case it was hot or on the chilly side) and looked at other behind the scenes photos from magazines like Elle.
The shoot was on the beach so I looked fab in my camisole and 50s style high-waisted Ankara skirt. I met Toke when she was getting her make up done. Her adorable puppy and her down to earth attitude blew me away. I told her how much I loved her weekly Youtube videos and she assured me that she would do one that very night. She changed into her first look in record time and the shoot began!
The make up and dresses were stunning. When her husband Maje arrived, there was little fuss made and the shoot carried on. I loved watching the debate on what accessories Toke should wear or what should be done to her hair. I had to constantly remind myself to take photos and videos while looking out for A.O. because I knew I was having way too much fun for it to have been part of the working process.
After countless photos and wardrobe changes, it was finally over. In the car on my way home, I looked through my material and I think I did an amazing job if I do say so myself. So now, I write this post at my cubicle, crossing my fingers and hoping that I get to go to the next cover shoot and get a glimpse of the glamorous world of a magazine cover girl.
