Obi Congratulates Adesina, Others, Commiserates with Victims of Onitsha Tanker Fire | THISDAY
The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has commended Mr. Femi Adesina on his appointment as the Special Adviser to the President on Media respectively.
He also commended the emergency of Mr. Eric Osagie as the Managing Director of The Sun Newspapers, Mr. Steve Nwosu as the Deputy Managing Director of the Sun Newspapers as well as Mrs. Funke Egbemode as the Managing Director of the Telegraph Newspaper.
Obi who expressed optimism that the new appointees would bring their rich experiences in their respective fields to bear in their new assignments, assured them of his support and prayers as they contribute to the progress of Nigeria. Obi urged them to always bear in mind that the assignments are national and crucial calls that require patriotism and diligence for success.
Amendment of 1999 Constitution dead with Jonathan’s exit, says Akume | VANGUARD
SENATE Minority Leader, George Akume, yesterday, foreclosed the possibility of the National Assembly overriding former President Goodluck Jonathan’s veto on the 1999 Constitution Amendment Bill, passed by the National Assembly.
Akume said the inability of Jonathan to assent to the bill before the end of his tenure has rendered the bill dead, saying there was nothing the legislature can do to get the amendment becomes law. Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, Akume, who represents Benue North West in the Senate under the All Progressives Congress, APC, said even as the Supreme Court asked both the Federal Government and the National Assembly to settle the issue out of court, the court did not ask that the government made concession nor ask the legislature to override the president’s veto.
Rafael Benitez named new Real Madrid coach | VANGUARD
“Real Madrid will present today, Wednesday, June 3, Rafa Benitez as the new coach of the first team for the next three seasons,” the club said in a statement.
Benitez will give a press conference at 1100GMT at the club’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
The appointment brings Benitez’s coaching career full circle as he returns to the club where he made his first steps as a youth team coach in the early nineties.
Andy Coulson cleared of perjury as Scottish court case collapses | THE GUARDIAN
David Cameron’s former director of communications, Andy Coulson, has been cleared of lying in court after a Scottish judge threw out charges of alleged perjury.
Lord Burns told Coulson at the high court in Edinburgh he had been formally acquitted of lying under oath about his knowledge of phone hacking at the News of the World while he was the paper’s editor.
