Tech Tuesday: Points For Whats App

Whatsapp made some major changes to their app recently that left users feeling at odds. In case you missed it, they added the new status feature that allows you share snippets of your life with your contacts all of which disappears after 24 hours. This feature made the previous text based status and the contacts section disappear and many users didn’t find this okay.

Most Users argued that the text based status feature held much relevance to an instant messaging app as opposed to pictures, doodles, Gifs and video based status update. A major benefit of the text status is they do not disappear after 24 hour hours, and users could easily inform their contacts of their availability, location amongst other things.

The contacts section was also a convenient feature that let users view every contact on their phone in an alphabetical order under one tab but the upgrade eliminated this feature leaving users to have to search for a contact in the search bar to initiate a conversation.

Owing to the overwhelming response from users, Whatsapp quickly responded to its users feedback and has brought back the text based status and contact feature. Users can now open settings on the app and see their existing text status right below their name. The contacts section is also back in the form of a green icon on the bottom right of the app. To view your contacts, simply tap on the icon, it opens up your entire contact list saving you the stress of having to search for contacts via the search button.
