#THROW BACK THURSDAY: WHAT COURSES DID YOU FILL ON YOUR JAMB FORM?
In 2003 when Jennifer was fifteen, she sat on the dining table and filled her JAMB form with the light from the kerosene lantern.
“Be careful o! Don’t fill nonsense there!” her father shouted from behind her. He had been standing there, the whole time, making sure that she filled the form correctly. Her father had decided that she would choose Medicine as her first choice and Pharmacy as her second choice. If her father had asked for her opinion, Jennifer would have told him that she didn’t want to be a Doctor or Pharmacist. She would have told him that she wanted to be a Fashion Designer. But her father didn’t ask for her opinion; he never asked for her opinion on anything. So, Jennifer filled the JAMB form with her father’s course choices.
Fast forward to 2017. Now Jennifer is one of the most successful Fashion Designers in Lagos. Jennifer got admission to study Medicine in Unilag, but after her first year, she switched to Biology. Her father was furious, but after some sensible advice from Jennifer’s mother, he accepted Jennifer’s choice. She graduated with a Second class upper in Biology, but after graduation, her heart was still in Fashion Designing. So, she took a few courses and started her fashion label. It was an instant success. Now, her father is one of her favorite customers (he always buys clothes for Jennifer’s mother!)
