The Naija Design Project

Hello everyone and welcome to the very first edition of the “Naija Design Project”. This project seeks to level the playing ground for the average up and coming designer, by offering exposure and PR, which are usually beyond the designer’s financial reach.

In achieving this, Tw has teamed up with the famed Nigerian Fashion Illustrator in the person of Omonigho Aito-Imonah and premier African wax printing company, Vlisco, to bring to you each month, a selection of style ideas, in illustrative format, utilizing Vlisco prints, in an open challenge, in which the designer is required to interpret an allocated deign, by sewing it up, modelling it, taking a picture and posting it on their social media handles.

The work with the most likes, asides winning mouthwatering gifts from Vlisco, gets a 2 page spread in Tw magazine, in which he or she will be profiled and the look book he or she will be required to create will also be showcased!!

This month’s style idea takes its inspiration from the sex appeal of a bare belly. However, with the typical Nigerian diet, a toned belly seems to be only possible in our dreams!

However, the aim here is not to bare the entire belly, but to create an illusion of one, by just leaving the silver of the belly exposed.

Each design in this editorial features a cropped top and calf length skirt. However while the ‘Amarachi’ skirt and blouse incorporates fullness and gathers, the line of the ‘Feyi’ skirt and blouse are sleek, austere and without fuss.

Both designs incorporate a skillful combination of complementing Vlisco prints from its latest range.
