THE BABY BUMP THAT BROKE INSTAGRAM RECORDS

beyonce

It all began on February 1st, when Queen Bey released the Instagram photograph announcing her pregnancy with twins. By the end of the first week, the photograph, which shows Beyonce holding her baby bump, had broken the Instagram record for most liked photograph with 7.8 million likes – former record holder was Selena Gomez with 6.4 million likes. By the time of this report, Beyhivers (Beyonce diehard fans), had taken that record to way past 10 million likes.

This bold move by Beyonce shocked many across the world because when she was pregnant with her first child, Blue Ivy, she didn’t officially release any photographs of her bare baby bump. And so, everyone was waiting to see Beyonce at the Grammy’s because that was going to be her first appearance since the announcement of her pregnancy. And Beyonce didn’t disappoint, with an eight-minute performance that had millions of eyes across the world glued to their television screens.

During the performance, there was a pre-recorded video that played on a screen, showing Beyonce in a gold costume that revealed her baby bump. And then the next day, there were some images of her released, showing her in the bikini version of the Grammy’s gold costume, with her baby bump still fully on display.

So could it be that the ‘bumping’ was all to push eyes to her Grammy performance? Who knows? Whatever the case, some have expressed this opinion, because there has been a rise in recent times of celebrities showing off their baby bumps, making them look like mere publicity stunts. But then, there are still others who feel this trend is a positive one, as it shows how liberated women have become; to a point that they are confident enough to show off their bodies even in pregnancy, without any shame.
