INTRODUCING OUR “TALES ON WHEELS!” MINI SERIES
Ridesharing has been a norm in Lagos since late 2016; everyone has at least one of the two major apps (Uber and Taxify) on their phone. While it’s ease of access and relatively cheap fares, have made it a blessing for people who have the money (but not enough money to afford cars) this relatively new transport option has come with its fair share of unforeseen outcomes.
Reports have surfaced on social media, of drivers assaulting passengers, passengers assaulting drivers, passengers accusing drivers of rape, and so on. While there have been many examples of such stories, we feel these narratives have been focused around issues of gender and sexuality, leaving little room for other equally bizarre stories.
Thus, we present “Tales on Wheels” a mini-series created to present the full range of weird ridesharing stories. In a nutshell, it’s a “Labe Orun” for frequent Taxify/Uber users to come share the weirdest or most interesting things that ever happened to them in a cab. Get ready for ghost stories, fast and furious chases, and so on. And as you read, may the take home message sink in: “people are weird, most of us don’t notice because we’re busy dealing with our own forms of weirdness. Stay woke.”
Also, if after reading our stories, you feel you have an experience in a Taxify or Uber cab that is weirder than what we’ve shown, send it as a story to pulse@twmagazine.net. If it’s as rad as you claim, we’ll post it on the site. Let’s spice things up together.
