Women are always searching for the right shoe. Shoes, in general, have served as markers of gender, race, ethnicity, and class. There are so many different styles, types, colours and of course heights.

It appears the most common types are high heels and flats. Heels and flats if paired with the correct outfit are simply stunning. No other shoe has however gestured towards leisure, sophistication, and sexuality as much as the “high-heeled shoe” and that’s nearly impossible to get from Flats.

In this era, the high heeled shoe is often the final detail to be added to an outfit, it is a wardrobe staple that has come a long way.

As good as the “high-heeled-shoe” looks, it could be dangerous for your health. They may cause joint pain, ingrown toenails, low back pain, falling and sprained ankles, change in posture etc.

Fortunately, according to Humble 2016, there are things you can do to minimize the health risks of frequent high heel use:

  • Make sure your shoes are the right size so your foot doesn’t slide forward and put even more pressure on your toes.
  • Don’t wear heels on days when your schedule includes lots of walking or standing.
  • Alternate your shoes. Avoid wearing high heels by wearing flats during commute times.
  • Stretch your calf muscles and feet every day.
