Hidden Gems: Muyiwa Akhigbe

In this spanking brand new column, we will be profiling the Hidden Gems of Nigeria Music, talented male and female musicians whose beautiful musical artistry is yet to be uncovered by the main stream music space.

This week, we are profiling an old soul, Muyiwa Akhigbe.

Enjoy!

You know you’ve stumbled upon good music when you can’t seem to find the will to change it.

Such was the case when in my search for some Soul music I came across the song ‘Rara’ by Muyiwa featuring another great talent, Tofa.

Muyiwa can be described as a modern storyteller with an old soul. His songs are life messages conveyed in a variety of genres such as Afrobeat, RnB, Jazz and Soul, all coming together to create timeless pieces.

The Afro soul singer, who hails from Edo state, only just began his career in music about 3 to 4 years back and has already released an EP titled ‘Dear Music’ on SoundCloud.

The Singer/Songwriter/Composer/Art director expresses his passion on a recent interview with Kakaki Africa in which he said: “The desires of the soul of a man will forever supersede the desires of the body of a man, so making music that feeds the soul of every human being who listens is music.”

He is also the proud owner of the music company, Olma Records, who have recently released a project – The PGM project – where rising Nigerian talents are given a chance to express themselves.

Currently, he may not be working on a particular project, but he is a gem to watch out for because his previous works are brimming with promises.

If you are a fan of the likes of Asa, Brymo or even Lagbaja, then this artist would capture both your ears and hearts easily.
