Boutique hotel

Boutique hotel is a show that follows the day-to-day happenings of a boutique hotel in the city of Abidjan, as Lola, a young & intelligent Ivorian woman, adopts the role of a manager in her mother’s hotel after the former holder of the position left- for reasons unknown to us viewers.

Right off the bat, I must say that this show heavily relies on a few characters -rather than all- to present itself as a good comedy. Despite that, these characters are really funny and do their jobs of making the show worthwhile. They play their parts with such enthusiasm that it can come off as contrived, which, to be honest, makes me laugh.

Lola is a good main character that I often empathize with due to her immense patience with the difficult guests and co-workers she has to put up with. She plays her role without being too dramatic.

“Brother Seraphin”, the man you’ll probably look most forward to seeing -as he’s one of those characters whose acts make up for much of the funny bits of the show- is the rude Chief financial officer whose antics oddly resemble that of the average Nigerian. So, of course, there’s someone there to remind us of ourselves.

One intermittent distraction on the show is its sudden decrease in audio quality at random times, which can leave you averse to continuing, because they last long enough to be off-putting, but bear you, just be patient, as this show has wonderful moments that will get you laughing for hours.
