After 6 years in the Banking industry, one would assume Itoro Ugorji would dive into another branch of the Finance sector. But passion, grit and dedication took her elsewhere.

Welcome to this week’s edition of Women We Love, and for this week we are talking about the child whisperer, Itoro Ugorji! As the CEO & Team Lead of one of Nigeria’s leading providers of innovative and practical childcare solutions, The Baby Lounge, Itoro has proved to be in a lane of her own.

Career

One of the earliest accounts of Itoro Ugorji’s career life is in the Banking sector, working to build 2 of Nigeria’s leading banks. After a 6-year career, she decided to pursue her passion in childcare. But not before gaining International exposure, skills and competency trainings to enable her perform in the best way possible. Today she holds a diploma in Children’s Studies, an M.Sc in Early Childhood Education with a specialization in administration, management and leadership, among other certifications in areas of Childcare. As a member of the U.S National Association for Educating the Young Child (NAEYC) and the World Forum Foundation, Itoro has worked with household names like Total E&P (Nigeria), Unilever (Nigeria), Chevron Employees Cooperatives, HIS and N.B.C and is an alumni of the Tony Elumelu Foundation and a Cherie Blair Foundation mentee. Now, isn’t that someone you’d want training your child?!

Back to the Beginning

However, Itoro’s primary desire to create The Baby Lounge gives credence to the saying – “where there’s a need, there’s an opportunity”. After waiting 7 years for a child, and discovering the lack of suitable childcare services in Nigeria, Itoro saw a gap that needed to be filled. This led to The Baby Lounge – a premium childcare service designed to help the working mom. Their services make it easy for moms to leave their kids in the hands of worthy caretakers they can trust.
