COVID-19

#MondayMotivation

By now, you know what COVID-19 is and what it has been doing to the world. Over 300,000 cases, 13,696 deaths, 96,006 recovered cases and an entire world filled with people wondering what to do next.

As scary as this all seems, and as unfortunate as the deaths have been, the interview session between Oprah Winfrey and Idris Elba & his wife Sabrina, gave me a reason to stop and think. Idris, who has tested positive for COVID-19, made a very interesting statement.

He said;

“One of the upsides of this whole drama is we’re forced to think together as a human race. Also, our world has been taking a kicking. We’ve damaged our world and it’s no surprise that it is reacting to the human race. It’s no surprise that a virus has been created to slow us down”.

And this gave me a reason to pause. Is this pandemic the reset button the world needed to stop and take account of itself? With more people in the world self-isolating and practising social distancing, staying home to work, spending more time checking in on family and really having more time on their hands, we see more humanity. The daily hustle & grind has been turned into a slow-paced walk that has forced us into reset mode.

So here’s what I’m thinking – this might be the reset button we need. A time to reflect and take stock of what we’re doing to our bodies, our families, our environment and our world. Are we caring as we should? Are we slowing down to live life day by day and not by quotas? How are we making an impact on the person living next door? Never have I yearned for a hug like now. And even the things we took for granted – like going to buy food, walking to a park, visiting grandma have all been compromised. I think it really is a time to pause and reset.

So even as we await the end of COVID-19, and an end is near, I hope we never forget the humanity that we all should demonstrate. Show love, compassion, honesty, forgiveness and above all, let’s care for each other.
